The manual identifies a 2MP CMOS sensor, so the 16MP output setting should not be treated as a native-detail measurement. It also differs from the product page in LED-count and external-current wording. We do not resolve those inconsistencies by selecting the more attractive claim; confirm the current revision with Rexing.

A service route makes the local workflow useful

Think of the Blackhawk as an observation point you will visit. If you already walk the property regularly, checking a card can fit that routine. If a visit requires a long drive or risks disturbing the very area you want to monitor, the cost of access may matter more than the hardware price. Compare that trade-off before choosing between local and cellular recording.

A practical system includes approved spare storage, an easy way to read the card and a place to retain original files. Label the camera location and keep its clock consistent with other units. A simple archive can reveal whether activity shifts over time without depending on a cloud service. Our retrieval-workflow guide explains the broader choice.

Test the actual crossing after dark

Night illumination and detection are different parts of the camera's job. Even if an animal triggers recording, its position, movement and distance can leave the resulting image less useful than expected. We do not have standardized Blackhawk samples that establish an identification distance. Mount it around a defined capture area and inspect the actual files from that installation.

Repeat a walk test at dusk and in darkness. Look for bright nearby vegetation, subjects cut off at the edge and motion that occurs before recording begins. Alter the aim or location deliberately and compare the result. Avoid turning a claimed maximum flash distance into the default width of the area you expect to document. See the night-illumination guide for a more useful way to evaluate examples.

Battery chemistry and external power deserve care

The January 2024 Blackhawk manual explicitly discusses four- or eight-cell alkaline operation and warns that ordinary 1.2V rechargeable AA cells may not supply the required voltage. Do not assume that an older H1 recommendation or a physically similar cell is an approved substitute. Match the current unit instructions and use a consistent set of cells.

For external power, the Blackhawk manual specifies 6V/2A, while the store mentions a 6V/1.5A solar arrangement. Ask Rexing which accessory and battery configuration it approves for the exact camera. The manual recommends removing alkaline cells when using an adapter. These instructions are different from some older trail-camera manuals, which is another reason not to mix documentation.

Keep the first deployment small and informative

Place the first Blackhawk somewhere you can inspect easily. Confirm that a few expected events are recorded, that the card can be read and that the camera resumes normal operation after you close it. Save the settings and date of that check. This is more useful than leaving several untested units out for a full season and discovering that a basic setup choice was wrong.

If the camera stops working, separate power, storage and capture questions. Check whether there are original files before assuming that the animal was missed, and change one part of the setup at a time. There is no documented cellular delivery stage here to troubleshoot. Our power guide offers a systematic starting point for field diagnosis.

The purchase decision

The Blackhawk fits readers who want a modest local recorder, can check the property and are willing to verify the exact model instructions. Its lack of a documented remote-delivery workflow can be perfectly acceptable for that job. It becomes a poor fit when off-site notifications are essential.

Before buying, confirm the packaged revision, supported SD card and power accessory, then judge the first recordings against your own purpose. Manufacturer marketing and customer-star totals do not establish comparative reliability. We would base the decision on useful originals, a manageable service route and clear support for the equipment you plan to connect.

Straight answers

Frequently asked questions

Is H1 Blackhawk the same as every Woodlens H1 listing?

Do not assume so. The Blackhawk page and its January 2024 manual have a different specification set from older Woodlens H1 material.

Does it send pictures to my phone?

No cellular or Wi-Fi delivery is established in the reviewed Blackhawk sources. Plan around retrieving its SD recordings.

Can rechargeable AA cells be substituted?

The Blackhawk manual warns that 1.2V rechargeable AA cells may be insufficient. Follow the current unit manual for approved power.

What storage does the reviewed Blackhawk support?

Its product page and manual identify regular SD storage up to 128GB. Confirm the exact card specification for the unit you receive.
